Dr. Ananthakumar Thillainathan, owner and president of MDCareNow LLC in Connecticut, has been implicated in significant legal and ethical violations.

Healthcare Fraud Conviction

Dr. Thillainathan pleaded guilty to healthcare fraud charges, admitting to submitting fraudulent claims to Connecticut Medicaid between 2019 and 2022. He falsely billed for 60-minute psychotherapy sessions that were either not conducted or involved minimal patient interaction. This fraudulent activity resulted in his practice receiving over $800,000 in unwarranted reimbursements.

Illegal Patient Recruitment and Kickback Scheme

In addition to fraudulent billing, Dr. Thillainathan engaged in illegal patient recruitment by paying a third-party company to bring in Medicaid patients, violating his provider agreement. He compensated the recruiting company approximately $100 per patient for initial visits and $40 for subsequent visits, leading to the recruitment of over 1,000 patients and resulting in more than $1 million in Medicaid reimbursements.
