His business, Casting360 (also known as Talent6), was fined $45,000 by San Mateo County authorities for deceptive marketing and fraud. This followed complaints from over 200 aspiring actors who were charged upfront fees, only to find themselves enrolled in ongoing monthly subscriptions. The site also allegedly promoted auditions that never existed, using a “bait and switch” technique.

Deceptive Practices and Legal Consequences

Casting360 was found guilty of violating California’s business laws governing unfair practices. Investigators uncovered that the company’s sales tactics were designed to trap clients into continuous payments by using hidden terms and misrepresentation. With a $2,500 fine per victim, the company was required to pay a hefty fine. Despite some complaints being resolved, authorities remained concerned about the deceptive sales methods, especially considering the call centers were located in Moldova and not directly in the U.S.

Authorities urged aspiring performers to be cautious when dealing with talent agencies, emphasizing that many people fall victim to such schemes due to their excitement and lack of awareness about the fine print. The court ruling mandated that Casting360 could no longer advertise casting opportunities unless they were legitimate and could not charge fees without client consent.
